RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C.- Steven Cohen, PH.D., Vice President of the Division for Statistical and Data Sciences at RTI International, recently authored a manuscript for an industry publication, the Contemporary Clinical Trials Communications, that outlines the importance of improving access to clinical trial data in support of health care disparities research initiatives.
In the publication, Cohen addresses the issue of a lack of racial, age, and health diversity in clinical trials. It is noted specifically that this is apparent with individuals with cancer, and that by enhancing the diversity of participants in clinical trials, there will be more informed characteristics of cancer survivors.
The manuscript then highlights how enhancing the analytic utility of clinical trial data can improve health disparities research. Cohen suggests that Project Data Sphere, a cancer research platform, addresses the disparity by using innovative research and analytic tools.
