American Association for Public Opinion Research selects 2 RTI experts as new executive council members

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — The American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR) has selected two new executive council members from RTI International, a nonprofit research institute. Dakisha Locklear will serve as the associate membership and chapter relations chair with Tamara Terry as the associate secretary-treasurer. 

Locklear has been an active member of AAPOR for the last seven years with Terry serving for almost 15 years including an appointment as the inaugural inclusion and equity chair in 2020. Seven additional new executive council members were elected this year. 

“AAPOR’s professional development and networking opportunities have broadened my perspective on survey research and have helped shape my career,” said Locklear, research services manager at RTI. “As a member of AAPOR’s executive council, I’m thrilled to be able to give back to others throughout their journey in the industry.” 

AAPOR is a professional organization dedicated to advancing the science and practice of survey and opinion research. It is governed by a 15-member executive council who serve two-year terms and are elected by AAPOR membership each year. 

“Serving on AAPOR’s executive council is such an honor because I have an opportunity to give back to the organization that has helped nurture and evolve my research career,” said Terry, director of academic research engagement and equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging community outreach chair at RTI. “There are so many stories and relationships that I have made over the years, creating a sense of belonging and connectedness that is sometimes rare to experience. It’s truly my happy place.” 

Several RTI experts will present and exhibit at the AAPOR annual conference in May with a focus on the community impact of innovative survey and statistical research. RTI has been a member of AAPOR for more than 60 years.
